UK Charity Gals Run!!!

Hey all!

First off, "Hi!" to all those I don't know. I was around at the beginning of FGR, but haven't participated in a long time. *slaps wrist*

I have a small idea - if it doesn't fly, nae worries. Just wanted to put it out there!

Basically, I know the Powers That Be are quite keen for Fuggers the world over to start doing some good stuff. The calendars, for example, were sold with the proceeds going to charity.

I was shown a flyer for a 10km run in Glasgow in May. I'm going to be training up for it myself and running with a couple girlfriends. I should mention now that the run is a woman-only run (sorry, guys. But we can always try to organize another one for both sexes if anyone is interested!).

I was thinking that if any other UK girl fuggers were interested in joining up with me for the run, we could maybe pick a charity and try to raise some money for it through personal sponsors and the like?

I think it would be a lot of fun, do some good, and get my arse into shape for the summer. We'd obviously get fun t-shirts made with some sort of ridiculously clever slogan involving FGR and the charity.

And obviously go to the pub after.

As a kickoff - I will pledge 20 quid per runner to whatever charity is designated and a FGR calendar to whoever manages to raise the most for charity before the run. (yes, i realize that it will be mid year and the calendar will be half done by the time you get it, but hey its still free, right?)

You have all heard about the calendars... and let's face it, you know you want yourself a little piece of this awesomeness.

But I also hear your plaintive cries "Uncle Trial, it's too damned 'epensive! Don't make me choose between my half-caf double whipped grande frappa-mocha-latte with a twist and this totally bitchin' FGR calendar!"

Fine.

You want a free calendar? Prove to me you deserve it.

Go forth, fuggers and spread the good. Between now and the end of the month, that fugger which most impresses me with their tale of giving back - be it a charitable donation, time spent mentoring a child, volunteering in your local soup kitchen... whatever... get out there, give a little something back and then tell us about it.

oh yeah... and illustrate how deserving you are with an appropriate photo as well.

Winner to be announced on the 1st of Feb. Photos should only be posted in the corresponding FGR discussion thread. And yes, I am paying full bill on the calendar, but no, you don't get to count that as your charitable act. :-)

Our Store is NOW OPEN!

The premier product is our 2009 Fugger Calendar! We're very proud of it, and think you'll love it. Special thanks to Flooz for creating such an incredible product - to Bitca for her hard work on the store - and to Scout for stepping in when we needed her to help finish things up!

There's a slight downside:

The Calendar is available in VERY LIMITED QUANTITY.
We were able (thanks flooz) to get what we got, for FREE - so every single penny goes to charity. But of course - we had to limit it to a small number of calendars.

So - go get them. If there's enough demand, we'll try to figure something else out - but for now - first come first served.

And - if you try to buy more than one - we'll thank you kindly for your extra donation - and ship you only one anyway.

Yeah - I know - I suck.

Saturday Morning

The Fugger Store will open mid morning on Saturday January 10th (eastern standard time).

If you are in another part of the world - I'm sorry in advance. I'll be shooting for a time that works for everyone - like 10-11 am EST.

Just a heads up - the first product is very limited in quantity - we only have about 75 to sell - so it will be first come, first served - and that's it. We'll be offering other products soon - but this first one is going to go fast people - very fast.

Also - only one per customer. If you are stupid enough to ignore this rule - we will thank you for your generous donation to our charities of choice - but you're still only getting one!

Be ready.

We promise, the first product is coming soon. We are working on the creation of the store. We have the product in hand - and Flooz did a kick-ass job.

We must warn you though - quantities are rather limited. I expect them to sell out quickly. Mostly cause it rocks.

Upwards and Onwards

As I'm sure (or at least I hope I'm sure) you all know by now, the hoax is over, the FGR group remains, and ain't no-one goin' nowhere except them fuggin' fools what wanna go.

Yes, of course FGR is sticking around, and for a damn long time I hope.

We did make a couple of minor tweaks (see new FAQ and new Rules on the FGR site) to make the group run a little smoother. We will also be a lot more actively engaged in policing deadwood out of the group. This is not to say that nonplayers are not welcome - of course they are - but we will be ejecting those who spend too much time whining about how they don't like FGR. If you don't like it, do what I do what Mariah "Shatter Glass" Carey comes on the radio - switch the damn channel.

Also, it should be pointed out that the FGR for charity efforts are NOT fake. We really do want to get the FGR community more involved in having a positive influence in the cities and countries where we all live. Not only is this a good way to give back a little bit, and hopefully refill the karma bank but it is also a great way to get out and meet other fuggers.

So welcome to the New Year, and welcome to the New FGR.

Why we're ending FGR...

Most of you have heard by now that we'll be bringing the Flickr Version of FGR to an end. This new blog will take the place of that madness. Mark and I have had enough of the bullshit over there. Too many people think that FGR is about them. The bottom line is, it's about us. Just us. And maybe Bitca. And also maybe Kat. But that's it. That's all we need. Except maybe Flooz.

And Dare.

So we're ending it over there - and bringing it over here.

We're also working on the FGRStore (www.fgrstore.com). It is not up yet, but we have a team of highly skilled web designers and graphic artists working hour after hour to get you the products you need. We have a big surprise product coming out that will be very limitied in quantity - and sure to sell out in a day. We have other ideas such as T-shirts and mugs and buttons which will all be available soon.

The important thing about the store is that every penny - every single penny - will be divided between our favorite charities.

Mark's Charity of Choice is MS.

My Charity of Choice is ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

These diseases have affected our loved ones and are extremely important to us.

In addition, we will be donating money from the sale of FGRStuff to Breast Cancer Research, since FGR has always taken a huge interest in breasts.

So hang in there folks - and look for the store to open in the next week or so.

The Changing Face of FGR

So, why a blog? Why now? What's the point?

Well my fine fellow fuggers (and fuggers to be if you've found this site and haven't yet joined the chaos), the reasons really fall into three categories...

the first is simple housekeeping - we are working to get the original Flickr group cleaned up and more tightly focused on the challenge groups. Not to diminish the fun and shenanigans, but several times in the last couple of weeks there have been random non-FGR related posts appearing in the group which have been since unceremoniously scooped from the pool like the floating turds they are. As these topics appear in future, they will be removed to this blog...

the second reason is more egotistical in nature... as stated elsewhere on this page, we are hoping to expand fugging infection elsewhere. The reality is, while we got our start as a group of fools needing photographic inspiration, our connections and impact have actually gone beyond the bounds of flickr-dom. Which actually leads to the third reason...

we often have a good time taking the piss out of each other and harassing random fools who stumble into our paths... but we also are a group of some of the most caring compassionate folks I know. Through this site we are hoping to not only provide an opportunity for greater interaction between members, but also make our impact felt in other ways. One of the earliest traditions of the group has been our annual participation in the Boobie-Thon... taking that concept to the next step, we are hoping to encourage greater philanthropic pariticaption from the fugging community. Be it fundraising activitites, fugger meetups for charitable work, or other ideas, lets get out and be known not only as the rudest assholes on flickr, but also as some of the most giving people in the world of social networking...

so there you have it - three good reasons for a Fuggin' Blog... enjoy!

Folks, I hate that I feel obliged to say this, but here it goes. Consider this an open letter to the wingers whiners and other miscellaneous fuckwits who don't have anything better to do than cry about how they got their feelings hurt in FGR.

This group is not about you.

Don't get me wrong, we asshats are glad you are here and glad you are having a good time, and really love the inspired genius you all share with the world through this digital forum. But if you for one minute think that this group is anything more than a random assortment of idiots making fun of each other, inciting general civil disobedience, and generally amusing ourselves then you are clearly fucked in the head.

This group is not about you.

Check your ego at the door. Realize that I don't care who you are, and neither does anyone else in here. Prince of Wales? Who gives a fuck. Victim of years of anxiety about your hook nose? Tough shit. Sufferer of anal warts? Your goddam business.

Don't bring your baggage 'round here, cuz we ain't carrying it.

This group is not about you.

It's about us. And when you fuck with us - ANY of us- by taking this too seriously and assuming that any insult, joke, or vulgar haiku is an assault on you personally, don't be surprised when you are rejected swiftly and severely for being an egotisitcal shitbird.

Grow the fuck up and either play along or get fucking lost.
